This gorgeous anthurium's parents come from the tropical forests of northern South and Central America. It's a newly minted cross, and not very common yet! Both Anthurium Crystallinum and Anthurium pinkleyl―the parent types― are epiphytes: they grow attatched to (but not hurting) plants like trees. There, they absorb their nutrients and moisture from the air, water and debris around them.
They thrive in higher humidity and around 24-27ºC, but once acclimated they can survive to 18ºC. Both parent varieties are susceptible to rootrot and other issues, so be sure to maintain a healthy watering schedule and good circulation for a healthy. vibrant crystallinum x pinkleyl. When growing any plant, mimicking its natural environment is the best way to keep it happy and healthy. This cross' parents are epiphytic and tropical, so they prefer orchid potting mix or something similar. Crystallinum x pinkleyl respond well to a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks in the growing season (spring and summer), if you're looking to give yours a bit of a boost!
The parents have different spreads, with Anthurium pinkleyl ranging from 30-45cm and Anthurium crystallinum maxing at 45cm (when grown indoors). In their natural environment, both parent varieties bloom year round. their flower spathes(A modified leaf, syurrounding the spadix-a stalkish structure made of lots of tiny flowers called inflorescences! An example of a plant with inflorescences is a sunflower.) can be a range of colours, and this particular cross' bloom colour is still a mystery. Take it upon yourself to find out!
